Bring out your dead....

I saw it. The dead truck. not dead people, dead roadkill...

Jersey has the highest density of deer. So needless to say, there is a LOT of dead roadkilled deer around. a LOT. During my usual 5 minute commute to the train station, I almost always surely drive past one dead deer.

Rumor has it that in Jersey, there are only two trucks that drive around the state to pick up the roadkill. The police call them in as they see them, and the trucks drive around NJ to pick it up (ugh worst job ever -- worse than a sanitation engineer).

So today, as I'm driving down I-78 East to work, I saw the truck -- and then I saw it: two guys hauling the dead carcass of a deer out from the woods and throwing it on the truck. wow.

I guess there's some part of the rumor that's true!!

Nice. And in all my 22 years driving along 78, I never saw it!

PS: When my parents first moved here, they told me a story about how they almost hit a deer. The poor guy was in shock, so they called the police. A cop came, shot the deer out of its misery, and put it in his truck.

Dad: What'd you do that for?
Cop: Dinner.

(true story)
