I'm doing another telecommute of a day. yay. But what a day of tech issues it's been...
I woke up this morning to a non-functioning cable connection -- no Internet, no TV, no phone. Apparently it's affecting the Bridgewater area.
I go to Panera -- my fav. free wifi place. Their wifi is shakey, at best. I get kicked off a couple times before I realize my queries keep getting interrupted. So I move again -- to the Starbucks. I'm trying to register my Starbucks card so that I can get free Wifi -- I"m told that I have to have used it within 30 days. Fine. I go inside to use the card. But then, apparently the system doesn't recognize today's transactions (so really, within the past 30-1 day/s ago). Fine. So I buy Internet time. My boss suggests remoting into her desktop and running the queries from there -- so that if I get kicked off, it's ok b/c the desktop will still be running those queries... I log into her computer -- my database program won't work. wtf. and now getting help from tech to fix the issue. UGH.
And my two hours of internet are about to be be up -- I wonder if I just get kicked off? or if they give me a chance to buy more time?
Anyhow. during my time at Panera and Starbucks, I'm thoroughly surprised how many business folks are around. The Panera had 2 groups of 4, 4 groups of 2, and like 3 single business folks doing work. Working on presentations, contracts, etc. I can only imagine that most of the people in there were consultants who were on the road. They talked about no knowing how to get around New Jersey, how weird the weather is here, etc... man -- could you imagine being a road warrior and doing all of your work in a Panera? That'd be kinda cool/kinda suck after a while -- I'd definitely start getting fat after a while.. those bread bowls are too addicting.
At Starbux, it's been a steady stream people in suits, button ups/downs, and dress pants... oddly enough - -not as many campers here... I would have expected more consultants or business people here b/c it's free for at&t wifi customers (read people who travel a lot) and it's right across the street from the Marriott -- where most consultants who are here would go... but then again -- there's not that much industry in Bridgewater -- other than pharma. Can't imagine who many consultants would be coming here --- altho i hear that the Marriott is always super booked -- at least according to the bartender there. Yes, I know. I go to the bar at the Marriott b/c it gives me the lowest chance of running into someone from hs/someone I don't want to run into. haha.
Ok and now i'm hitting send before I get kicked off and lose everything I just typed in. (again.)
