Day One

Day one in this blog. Really this is the third week of work for me. And not even my first day this week. But still. Well consider this a day one

Especially bc I'm pretty sure this is day one on the nj transit for the girl sitting across from me. She's in a very light blue jean skirt that is way too short for a girl who is, I'd say, 5'4" and well over 200lbs. I know I'm a horrible person but still. They should not make size 16 skirts that are only 8" long at wet seal

Anyhow I know it's her first time on the train because she's gotten up to look at the map of the system at least 5 times in the past 10 min. I mean seriously the train only goes one direction, is the only line in this area and no way to make transfers. Yet at every stop she looks up at the map and then frantically outside for the sign at the stop even though the conductor clearly announces it at each stop.

Although I can kind of empathize. It sucks learning new transit systems in new cities. I remember going to DC for the first time and not realizing that I need to hold onto my ticket to get out of the Metro. I remember the first time using the T in Boston and getting really confused when the inbond train turned into an outbound train. Hell I've lived I'm New York city and made plenty of mistakes like taking the 2 or 3 and not transferring or the E uptown and ending up on the East side. So I guess I'll be nice and let this girl know that the next stop is the stop she's been asking the ticket conductor. But mainly for the sake of the conductor who looks so annoyed they're about to throw her off the train.

Update: even after I told this girl to get off, she thanked me and still felt like she needed to ask the conductor. Even though he announced it and the sign outside clearly labels the station as well.

I love -- and hate -- when transit newbies don't take my advice. I think the endless amusement they provide is the one good thing about the tourists in the Times Square area!
